This course will give you the opportunity to speak to a native speaker of English. Interaction with a native English speaker and the other classmates during this course will help improve your speaking ability and give you confidence.
This course will offer useful topics to practice when preparing for Part 1 of the iBT TOEFL Speaking section. Independent topics of the open choice / personal experience or opinion type questions.
You will gain an advantage during the TOEFL® speaking test because you will know what to expect and will not be caught off guard. You will learn tips and techniques, so you can feel more confident and focused when presenting your response.
In TOEFL Speaking, there are two independent speaking tasks and four integrated tasks. You won’t be speaking to a real person during this section. Instead, you’ll hear recorded conversations and respond by speaking into a microphone.
The first two TOEFL iBT Speaking topics are independent speaking tasks that draw on the student’s own ideas, opinions, and experiences when responding.
The two independent speaking questions will ask a question on a familiar topic you can speak about without the help of outside materials. You’ll be giving your opinion or describing information you know.
If friends from another country were going to spend time in your country, what city or place would you suggest they visit? Using details and examples, explain why.
Preparation Time: 15 seconds
Response Time: 45 seconds
After your exam, TOEFL graders will then listen to your responses. This section tests your ability to speak effectively in academic settings. You’ll be graded on how completely you answer each question, your ability to speak clearly and coherently, and your vocabulary and grammar.
If you are taking this course, you may also consider enrolling in my vocabulary or grammar courses. If you do not have a board English vocabulary the Independent Speaking task will be difficult for you to get a higher score that you will need to pass the exam. An abundance of practice materials are included.
